White Plains Community

If Westchester is the Golden Apple, then White Plains, a most attractive residential community offering the conveniences of an urban center with the freedom of a suburban lifestyle, is surely its juiciest bite.

A community-oriented city of 50,000 people, located about 25 miles north of New York City, it has preserved quality of life through carefully planned management of the commercial sector, excellent city services, quality education, convenient transportation, and abundant shopping. The city boasts award-winning parks and recreational programs, a nationally recognized public library, and ample open spaces.

The housing market offers a diverse selection of old and new single-family homes. Apartments range from rentals to affordable cooperatives to luxury condominiums and town houses... all within walking of the Synagogue. As a result of the strong corporate tax base, White Plains residents pay the lowest real estate taxes in the County.

White Plains is centrally located in the commuter hub, with easy access to New York City, Northern Westchester and New Jersey, Rockland and Fairfield Counties, and Connecticut. An express stop on the Metro North train line, only 38 minutes from Grand Central Station, the city is accessible to the Bronx River and Hutchinson River Parkways, Routes 287 and 684.

For families interested in Jewish Day School Education, White Plains has a Solomon Schechter School within the city limits, Solomon Schechter High School in Hartsdale, the Westchester Day School and Westchester Hebrew High School in nearby Mamaroneck and Westchester/Fairfield Hebrew Academy in Greenwich, CT (75% students from Westchester in 2003)

All of the major Jewish organizations are represented with local chapters here. There is a community Mikveh and an Eruv in the city.

In the greater White Plains area, there is a fine selection of kosher butchers, bakeries, and restaurants.
