The State of Israel

Mission Statement
  1. Vision
The mission of the Committee is to provide support to the State of Israel, the people of Israel and to Jerusalem, its capital.

  2. Goals
The Committee seeks to develop support and increase informed understanding (in order of priority):
    1. among the members of the Hebrew Institute
    2. in the Jewish community of White Plains
    3. in the Jewish community of Westchester
    4. by cooperating with other organizations that support Israel
    5. in the White Plains non-Jewish community

  3. Guidelines
    1. The Committee will attempt to promote the essential unity among the Jewish people.
    2. The Committee will not take sides among political or other groups within Israel.

  4. Action Steps
The Committee will seek to achieve this support:
    1. by programming which achieves a greater understanding of the current situation in Israel and its historical perspective, including a newsletter.
    2. by providing material support to Israeli citizens, for example by giving tsedakah, by increasing the purchase of Israeli goods and encouraging trips to Israel.
    3. by providing emotional support and bonding between the local Jewish community and people and institutions in Israel, for example by pairing with other institutions, arranging for email pals between American children and Israeli children and encouraging/arranging visits to Israel.
    4. by encouraging representatives of other shuls in White Plains to attend our meetings, share our experience and/or form a broader community based group to support Israel.
    5. by programming which shows the media bias in covering Israeli news.
    6. by programming which develops an understanding of what Arab leaders are saying in Arabic to their local constituency.
    7. by sharing our opinions with our political representatives.
    8. by arranging activities which are part of the Israeli experience and culture.
    9. any other activities developed by the Committee.
